ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - One hundred people are helping to get the ball for the St. Louis Cardinals home opener to Busch Stadium.

SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center partnered with BMO Harris Bank for the first ever home opener Game Ball Relay.

The participants are are passing the ball runner to runner during a 26-mile relay.

The runners started at Rawlings Headquarters at 510 Marylvilel University Drive at 5 a.m. Monday.

Cardinal-great Ozzie Smith will pick up the final leg of relay at Joe Buck's Restaurant downtown. He and a Cardinal Glennon patient will run the ball to Busch at 1:15 p.m.

The relay is part of the Homers for Health fundraiser that benefits the medical center.
