WENTZVILLE, Mo. (KSDK) - A man has been charged after a Walgreens pharmacist found him behind the pharmacy counter.

Nineteen-year-old Joel T. Hughes, a Union resident,has been charged with stealing a controlled substance.

Police say around 5:30 a.m. March 30 a pharmacist found Hughes behind the pharmacy counter at the Walgreens in the 1900 block of Wentzville Parkway.

Hughes left the store after he was confronted by the pharmacist.

It was later determined $800 worth of prescription medication had been stolen. Walgreens' loss prevention office was notified, and they said a similar situation had happened at a store in Washington, Mo.

Hughes is currently held in the Franklin County Jail, waiting to be transferred to the St. Charles County Adult Detention Facility.

A cash-only bond has been set at $25,000.
