ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Cardinal fans were out in full force Monday and we even noticed a big showing from the teams youngest supporters.

Many parents were treating opening day like a holiday, having no problem pulling their kids from school for the occasion.

Most of the parents NewsChannel 5's Coreen Savitski talked to weren't shy about letting their kids ditch class.

Parents gave just about every excuse in the book. Some chose baseball over school for sentimental reasons, saying they want to make new memories with their kids or continue family traditions already in place, while others are just following doctor's orders.

We found a couple teachers Monday who were skipping school and they didn't want to go on camera for obvious reasons. They hope some of their students played hooky for the day, just like they are.
