FLORISSANT, Mo. (KSDK) - There's a big celebration going on in Florissant.
Beverly Uhlmansiek is recovering from her second heart transplant.
She received her first heart transplant 20 years ago after she developed a post-partum heart condition following the birth of her third daughter.
Uhlmansiek was preparing for the 2012 Transplant Games when a routine checkup revealed her heart was failing. She was placed on a waiting list.
On the 20th anniversary of her first heart transplant, she received the call that a new heart was available. She had the surgery the next day.
She's sharing her story hoping to inspire others to become organ donors.
"If you're so inclined, register on the Missouri registration, so that you can be an organ donor. It's a gift. It's a gift of life you know. I mean how many times in your life can you be a hero. You could save somebody's life. You could save several somebodys' lives," said Uhlmansiek.
The celebration is at Bandanas Bar-B-Q in Florissant on Lindbergh. A portion of sales will go to Team Transplant St. Louis.
