ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Before becoming the Cardinals manager, Mike Matheny was asked to coach little league. The experience prompted him to write a seven-page document known as the Matheny Manifesto.

He became upset by what he was seeing around the little diamond. He saw parents yelling at young kids that were trying to learn the game and not disappoint.

For Matheny there was only one way that he would work from the dugout, so he took his keyboard and hacked out his heartfelt demands to parents. Not only does the skipper discuss a parent's role, but he tackles the topic of coaches. He also addressesthe role of the athletes themselvesand being responsible for their own actions.

The five page document is a true complete package and came to be known as the Matheny Manifesto. You can read it here.
