EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) - A 14-year-old boy has been charged withshooting and killing a Granite City man in November.

Mylan T. Newbern is charged with first-degree murder, residential burglary, and attempted armed robbery.

Police were called to 1200 block of Meridian shortly before 9:30 p.m. November 8, 2012 for a report of a body found in an alley. Charles Weiss, 54, was found in the yard of a friend's home with a gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Four juvenileswere taken into custody a short time later. Markeith Reynolds Jr., 15; Shawn Russell, 15; and Brian Taylor, 16 werecharged as adults with two counts of first-degree murder.

Police say Newbern shot Weiss during an attempted robbery. He was originally charged as a juvenile, but was transferred to adult criminal court this week.

If convicted, Newbern faces up to 60 years in prison.

Newbern has been in custody since November 13, 2012 and is held without bond.
