ST. CHARLES (KSDK) - A 20-year-old man lost his life Thursday after being under water in a New Town lake in St. Charles County on the Fourth of July.

Police have now identified the victim as James Harrell of St. Louis

St. Charles City firefighters rescued theHarrell around 5 p.m. Firefighters dove repeatedly into the lake of Galt House Road, feeling the bottom with their hands. The lake is deep and dark according to rescuers, but 15 minutes into the search they located the man.

"They got his body out of the water. I saw several people getting his body out of the water and then putting it on the board right away and pumping and trying to resuscitate him," said witness Linda Huning.

Firefighters were able to get a pulse in the ambulance and theHarrell was in critical condition at St. Joseph's Health Center in St. Charles until Thursday night when he died.
