UPLANDS PARK, Mo. (KSDK) - The Village of Uplands Park is going to extreme measures to get around a law requiring it to police its village.

The Uplands Park chairman tells NewsChannel 5 the village clerk is going door-to-door to check for empty homes. If less than 400 people live in the village, it would be exempt from the law requiring local police.

The village has one full time marshal and relies on St. Louis County for emergency response. The county prosecutor is calling for full-time police patrols, but Uplands Park says it can't afford to pay officers.
