ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – One local man is making a name for himself not by painting or sculpting, but by being a brick artist – as in Lego brick.

"People call me the 'Lego Guy,'" Colin DeVaughan said.

He got the idea from his nephew, a "Lego kid."

"He is a Lego fanatic," DeVaughan said. "He played with Legos all the time. I wanted to do a project with him before he was too cool for me."

They made a family photo out of Legos, and that got Colin thinking.

"I thought there might be a market for it," he said.

And it turns out that there is.

"I've gotten orders from Florida and California and Louisiana," he said.

People send Colin their photos, which he then turns into Lego art. And how he does that isn't exactly child's play – all he'll say about the process is that he uses a computer-aided design.

"Creating the design is the thing I'm doing that not every does or can do," he said.

The Lego art can cost anywhere from $60 to hundreds of dollars – it all depends on factors like how big the final product is.
