CHICAGO (AP) - Celebrations in Chicago for the state's newly approved same-sex marriage law included a visit by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to a well-known gay bar in the city's Boystown neighborhood.

The mayor visited Sidetrack on Tuesday night to congratulate revelers who were celebrating after the Legislature voted to legalize gay marriage earlier in the day.

The governor has said he'll sign the measure.

Emanuel told the crowd: "When two adults love each other, the state should embrace that, rather than stand in the way."

Supporters raised drinks for toasts as signs decorated the bar, heralding the bill's passage.

WLS-TV reports more celebrations are planned in the neighborhood that's home to many of the city's gay bars, including a rally on Thursday.
