COLUMBIA, Mo. (KSDK) – Ryan Ferguson was released Tuesday night after spending eight years in prison for the death of a newspapers sports editor.
One of the first things the 29-year-old did? Drank a beer and enjoyed a steak, if the new profile picture for the Freed Ryan Ferguson page is any indication.
Almost 8,000 people joined the page Tuesday, and supporters have created a freedom fund on Fundly to garner donations to get Ferguson started.
In a news conference, Ferguson also admitted to wanting Dairy Queen after his release.
Ferguson was released after the Missouri attorney general decided not to retry him for the 2001 slaying of Columbia Daily Tribune Sports editor Kent Heitholt. It came a week after a state appeals court panel overturned Ferguson's conviction, saying the prosecutor's office withheld evidence from Ferguson's attorneys and he didn't get a fair trial.
