CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Gov. Jay Nixon says Missouri is prepared to compete aggressively with other states to land a new Boeing Co. commercial aircraft manufacturing plant.

Nixon gave his pitch Wednesday to civic and business leaders in St. Louis and St. Charles County at a luncheon hosted by Progress 64 West, a group that promotes development along the Interstate 64 corridor.

Nixon said he plans to meet with legislative leaders later in the day to consider a special session on possible economic incentives for the manufacturer.

The Democratic governor met privately with Boeing executives last week as Missouri competes with at least five other states to produce the Boeing 777X commercial airplane.

A new plant would likely mean thousands of new jobs. Boeing says it expects to choose a location by early 2014.
