CASEYVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) – A 32-year-old Belleville man has been charged with a DUI and reckless homicide after hitting and killing a pedestrian near the intersection of State Route 157 and Garden Avenue.

It happened at approximately 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police say Shaun Schmierbach allegedly struck 29-year-old Jamel Rhodes, who was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering extensive injuries in the collision.

After the accident, Schmierbach was taken to a local hospital for treatment due to minor injuries.

He is currently being held at St. Clair County Jail on a $750,000 bond.
