ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (CNN) - A man in New Mexico who pleaded guilty to killing his 5-year-old stepson after the boy wet his pants has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Richard Gutierrez admitted to investigators that he got angry after 5-year-old Isaiah Ithurria wet his pants. Prosecutors say Gutierrez threw him on the floor so hard, the child lost consciousness. His mother was attending a college class when it happened.
At just five years old, Isaiah's family said he had dreams of playing for the Green Bay Packers, going to college and following his uncle's footsteps to be a firefighter.
"Isaiah was loved by so many people. He had amazing blue eyes that could light up a room with smiles as soon as you looked into them."
