ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – The fire department is working to stop emergencies before they start by putting together hundreds of kits that include essentials like food, water and flashlights.

Energizer donated 2,000 of those flashlights Wednesday to help get those kits ready. Chief Dennis Jenkerson said with bad weather in the forecast, it's a great time to think about making ak it for yourself.

Jenkerson said the department hopes to have those kits ready in a about month, and then they'll go door-to-door not only handing them out, but also helping people locate their gas, water and electrical shut-off points in case of an emergency.
