ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – In wake of the severe winter storms in southeast Missouri, Ameren says it is working to restore power to those affected by outages.

They don't have exact numbers for how many people lost power, according to a news release. They do know they were caused by "galloping lines," which is what happens when ice and winds force power lines to sway and even bounce up and down.

This dynamic storm poses unique challenges to our crews," Michael Moehn, senior vice president of Customer Operations for Ameren Missouri, said in a news release. "Sometimes our workers return to the same lines they'd repaired only hours before, because these high winds have knocked out power again."

Ameren Missouri's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will stay open throughout the storm to coordinate restoration efforts.

Customers who see downed power lines should always call Ameren Missouri at 1-800-552-7583.
