ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – Mo. Gov. Jay Nixon will sign into law $1.7 billion in tax breaks for Boeing Tuesday if the company brings thousands of new jobs to St. Louis. But that's not all the company could get.
Monday, the St. Louis County Council promised to more than double the state incentive package for Boeing, if it decides to build its new 777x in St. Louis.
The County Council called a special meeting to pass the resolution ahead of Boeing's Tuesday deadline for incentive package proposals. More than a dozen states are said to be competing for 8,000 jobs.
And while some say St. Louis is a long shot, those leading the St. Louis effort say the only opinion that matters is Boeing's.
The money for the incentives would come from tax money generated by the Boeing expansion.
