KSDK - Thursday we learned more about some major NCAA events coming to St. Louis over the next few years.
Sports fans will certainly be excited to hear events like Division One Men's Wrestling are coming back. And new events like Women's gymnastics are heading our way too. Business owners in our area are excited about the championships too. They say business will be booming as a result of the exposure.
St. Louis beat out the competition and has been selected to host 8 NCAA championships between 2015 and 2018.
The entire region will benefit from this especially downtown St. Louis, Midtown, St. Louis County, and St. Charles. That's because Division One Wrestling will take place at Scottrade Center downtown, Division Two Wrestling and Women's Gymnastics will be held at St. Louis University's Chaifetz Arena, Women's bowling will be at Tropicana Lanes in Richmond Heights, and the Women's Ice Hockey Frozen Four will be at the Family Arena in St. Charles.
"The economic impact really reverberates through the community and into the future because it helps us bring more events here. The better we do on one, the better we're going to get the chance to get the next, and then the more dollars that flow into the region," said Frank Viverito, the President of the St. Louis Sports Commission.
