BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) – A 17-year-old student at Belleville East High School has been charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman and criminal sexual assault after allegedly attacking a fellow student Friday afternoon on school grounds.
David Fields is charged with forcing the 17-year-old victim – who is pregnant – to engage in sexual intercourse after grabbing her hair and the back of her neck. Police say the victim knew Fields.
It happened at approximately 2:30 p.m. Friday in an area used for the school's Alternative Program, which is isolated and separate from the main campus, according to a media release from the school district.
The students in the Alternative Program are not permitted in the main area of campus.
The attack was reported by a staff member to a school resource officer, and Fields was arrested at a home in Shiloh, Ill. a few hours later without incident.
"In light of this isolated incident, we will be reviewing our current security measures and procedures to see if there is anything further we can do to implement additional safety measures," a district news release read. "…the District takes seriously its obligation to protect the safety of its students and staff and will continue to do so in the future."
No additional information was immediately available.
