ALTON, Ill. (AP) - Friends of a strangled southwestern Illinois woman whose dismembered body was found along a river hope a memorial fund can raise money to cover funeral expenses and a grave marker.

The (Alton) Telegraph reports the fund is for 30-year-old Alton woman Courtney Coats. Her body was found last week along the Illinois River in Greene County. She had been reported missing Nov. 25.

Madison County prosecutors have charged 28-year-old Patrick Chase of Alton and 30-year-old Brandon Chittum of Collinsville with first-degree murder and other charges.

Both men are held on $1 million bail. Online court records don't show whether either man has an attorney.

The memorial fund has a website at www.GoFundMe.com. Donations also may be dropped off or mailed to the Jerseyville Banking Center in Jerseyville.
