ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – The start of the New Year brings the beginning of new laws in Illinois.

More than 200 new laws will be implemented, starting Jan. 1, including traffic and medical laws.

Starting Wednesday, Illinois has a new "hands-free driving" law, which means no one can drive with a cell phone up to your ear. Also, the maximum speed limit will increase to 70 miles per hour on rural interstates.
