ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – The start of the New Year brings the beginning of new laws in Illinois.

More than 200 new laws will be implemented, starting Jan. 1, including traffic and medical laws.

Starting Wednesday, Illinois has a new "hands-free driving" law, which means no one can drive with a cell phone up to your ear. Also, the maximum speed limit will increase to 70 miles per hour on rural interstates.

Another state law allows for the use of medical marijuana, and is regarded as one of the strictest law in the country. The program outlines a number of medical conditions where a patient can be allowed to take medical marijuana.
