ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – Cold water and the fact that it's January didn't stop a brave group of water skiers from taking to the Mississippi River Wednesday.

It was part of the Annual Polar Bear Water Ski Event, which was held in the river at the base of the Gateway Arch. Proceeds support the Missouri Disabled Water Ski Association. About $4,500 was raised Wednesday alone, putting the grand total at $95,000.

Dave Dietrich, dressed as Santa Claus, kicked things off, and several other brave souls followed suit.
