HOUSTON (AP) - Former first lady Barbara Bush remains in a Houston hospital for treatment of a respiratory-related issue.
Bush family spokesman Jim McGrath said Thursday she is "doing great and responding well" to treatment at Methodist Hospital in Houston.
McGrath says physicians may be exercising extra caution by keeping her at the hospital.
The 88-year-old wife of former President George H.W. Bush was admitted to the hospital Monday.
The Bush family matriarch had heart surgery in 2009. She also was hospitalized in 2008, when she underwent surgery for a perforated ulcer, and in 2010, when she was admitted after having a mild relapse of a thyroid condition.
She and her husband, the 41st president, live in Houston.
