British police said four people are believed dead after a U.S. Air Force helicopter crashed off the eastern coast of England on Tuesday night.

The HH-60G Pave Hawk, a version of the Blackhawk, crashed off the Cley coastal area of Norfolk county. The helicopter was was based at the Royal Air Force base at Lakenheath in Suffolk, a U.S. Air Force spokesman told the BBC.

The HH-60G Pave Hawk is primarily used for search and rescue and to remove combat forces "under stressful conditions."
