KSDK – Ryan Ferguson has joined the world of social media.

The man who was released from prison in November after spending nearly a decade behind bars for the murder of Columbia Daily Tribune sports editor Kent Heitholt (a crime he says he did not commit) joined the social network on Tuesday, using the handle @lifeafterten.

"Welcome to my new Twitter account everyone!" his first tweet read. "Great to have you here. Can't wait to share all my random thoughts with you! Talk to you tmw!"

He also retweeted Nightline Anchor Dan Abrams, who wrote, "Good to see what appears to be Ryan Ferguson on Twitter. What a Twitter handle!"

"Great to hear from you. Love the Twitter handle myself," Ferguson's response. "…It'll be used a lot in the future. Hope to speak soon."

"P.S. I just tweeted my first Tweet!!!" he added.

A Missouri appeals court overturned Ferguson's conviction on Nov. 5, arguing that the prosecutor's office withheld evidence from defense attorneys. Later that month, Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster announced that the state will not re-try Ferguson.
