ST. LOUIS (KSDK) -- If you're headed downtown this weekend, expect some big delays.
The Missouri Department of Transportation says it will completely shut down Interstate 70 between Pine Street and the Poplar Street Bridge while crews demolish the Walnut Street Bridge.
"So around 6 p.m., right after rush hour, we're gonna be closing the reversible lanes," MoDOT Engineer Deanna Venker said. "We'll be closing the Eads Bridge. We'll also be closing from Poplar Street Bridge in the westbound direction the ramp that goes to 70 and Memorial from Illinois."
Drivers are asked to avoid the area if they can. MoDOT hopes to have a new bridge finished in about 60 days.
