ST. CLAIR COUNTY (KSDK) – A former Metro East judge is now at the mercy of the courts.
Former St. Clair County Judge Michael Cook called 911 from his hunting cabin on March 10, 2013. His friend – and fellow judge – Joe Christ was dead after a heroin overdose.
With Cook behind bars on drug and gun charges, investigators searched the cabin two months later.
Search warrants released Thursday reveal that police found evidence of drug use, paraphernalia and a trail of white residue on a dollar bill, glass plate and in a nightstand.
Cook pleaded guilty to heroin possession, and accepted a deal from prosecutors for 18 months in prison.
A judge has delayed his sentencing, however, citing concerns about the duration of his criminal activity and the damage done to the judicial system.
The documents also show that several guns were seized –something that you might expect in a hunting habit.
Cook is scheduled back in court late next month.
