MANCHESTER, Mo. (KSDK) – A police officer who saved several people from a burning apartment building was recognized by the community Monday night.

"I don't feel like I'm a hero, but I feel like I did my job, and that's what we're here to do as police officers: to help others," Officer Anthony Davis said.

On Jan. 3, and another policeman arrived at a building on Pinyon Drive, where they saw smoke and fire shooting through the room.

Davis said he helped one woman out of the building, when he heard a man screaming "help" from the third floor.

He risked his own life to climb up the stairs to rescue him.

Davis and the man suffered smoke inhalation.
