KSDK – He was half a world away for a full year. On Sunday, an Air Force General from the metro east surprised his three daughters with a little extra help from his community.

It happened at Monkey Joe's in Fairview Heights. Amber Smith had been separated by a year and an ocean from the man she'd married. Her three kids came under the guise that they were getting to play games. The real mission, however, was a surprise.

Eight-year-old twins Marisha and Mazie, as well as three-year-old Melody, call him dad. But his fellow airmen know him as Brigadier General Scott Smith. He's spent the past year training Somali troops in Africa.

After 30 hours of travel, Smith came straight from the airport and started his break by taking part in a made-up game of "Unwrap the Mummy" to surprise his girls, who wrapped him right back with love.

Watch the video above for the special reunion.
