HAZELWOOD, Mo. (KSDK) – Two weapons were recovered from a car in the parking lot of Hazelwood Central High School Wednesday afternoon, according to a letter from the superintendent.

School officials noticed a commotion in a vehicle in the lot Wednesday afternoon after a security staff member received notification of a possible altercation involving some students. When they approached the vehicle, two of the four people inside ran off. The two others – both students at Central – were questioned and taken into custody after two weapons were found inside the car.

Police are currently searching for the other two individuals, whose identities are known by authorities.

"I want to reassure everyone that the safety of our students and staff remains a top priority," Superintendent Grayling Tobias wrote in a letter to parents. "I also want to remind everyone we continue to create an atmosphere that allows students and staff to contact security or an administrator if they see or hear anything that jeopardizes the safety of students or staff."

No additional information was immediately available.
