ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – A local woman faces more than three years in prison for embezzling $2 million from her former employer over a 16-year period.

Elizabeth Earnest worked as an officer manager and assistant for the victim from 1997 and Feb. 2013. During that period, she wrote blank checks from her employer's account to herself, and covered up any evidence – even going as far as to shred the victim's bank statements.

To further cover her tracks, she falsified bookkeeping entries and falsely classified expenses, according to a news release.

Her 16-year scheme was finally uncovered when she left for vacation in February, and the true bank statements were revealed.

Earnest pled guilty to one count of mail fraud last July, and has agreed to forfeit all money and property obtained from her illegal activity.
