ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – After a bit of a weather delay, the city of St. Louis kicked off its 250th birthday celebration at City Hall.
Across from the Repertory Theatre and Webster University reenacted the Gateway City's founding.
Here's a unique fact about the founding of St. Louis: Every early step was recorded in Auguste Chouteau's journal. Almost no other major American city has a written record of its first days like that.
"We should be so proud of who we are, because we have a unique culture," Elizabeth Gentry Sayad said. "We do not have much in common with Wichita, Indianapolis or Des Moines. Our culture is different."
As a reminder of St. Louis French roots, several downtown streets will be renamed.
French plaques are also going up.
