EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KSDK) – The relentless winter has been tough on almost everyone – but great for those who own a salt company.
Workers at A-1 Salt in East St. Louis say they've been slammed with requests for rock salt and ice melt.
Owner Mark Chick says there's a nationwide shortage, and his company is now shipping in salt from New Mexico and Texas.
Salt costs have gone from $69 to $219 a ton in the past couple of months because of the rough winter.
"If you need salt, I recommend you get it as soon as you possibly can, because everybody typically waits until the last minute, until they're positive it's going to happen, and then rush to us to get salt," Chick said.
