ROXANA, Ill. (KSDK) – A Roxana man is accused of driving away from an accident in a damaged truck with a punctured tire - prompting a pursuit through multiple jurisdictions – and proceeding to hit a patrol car before finally leading an officer on a chase through the woods.

It started at 10 p.m. Monday, when the South Roxana Police Department responded to a reckless driving complaint at the Midwest Bio Diesel Plant in South Roxana.

An officer noticed that the truck matched the description of a vehicle that was involved in multiple property damage accidents in Wood River, Ill. The truck had extensive damage and a punctured tire. The driver, identified as Charles Higgins, fled when officers tried to pull him over, prompting a pursuit that ended near a rock quarry in Alton, Ill.

Higgins got out of his truck after he struck a South Roxana Patrol Car, leading to a chase through the woods, where he was finally taken into custody.

Higgins has been charged with two counts of felony aggravated fleeing and eluding and is currently being held at the Madison County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
