GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KSDK) – Two music teachers in the Granite City school district will lose their jobs.
The Granite City school board discussed budget cuts on Tuesday night. The possible cuts included the 5th and 6th grade band program.
Many parents worried that cutting the programs would create a domino effect across the district.
After a debate, the board voted to eliminate two elementary school teacher positions. The rest of the music program will remain intact.
"This is an important part of our community," Dan Comer said. "Without it, our community suffers. Our education suffers."
The band director tells us the board hopes to regain those positions sometime next year.
