KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Kansas City police say a minivan struck two children riding a skateboard, killing one of the children and injuring the other.
The Kansas City Star reportsthe accident occurred Saturday evening outside an apartment. Police say the minivan driver was headed west when the two children came down a hill on the skateboard.
Sgt. Bill Mahoney says the driver stopped but not in time. He says 9-year-old Jordan Hale was killed in the accident, and a 6-year-old boy on the skateboard was severely injured. Mahoney says the 6-year-old boy, who was not identified, was in serious condition Sunday.
He says the boys are believed to be from the area.
Police are investigating to determine if speed was a factor in the accident.
