ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – A major employment change could help people with disabilities find jobs.
Starting Monday, businesses that work with the federal government will have to set goals to employ people with disabilities.
The law won't require them to hire the disabled – instead, it asks companies to set a goal to have 7 percent of their workforce be disabled.
The Starkloff Disability Institute says it's willing to work with major employers to understand the new requirements.
"So we're delighted it's going into effect, and we're working very hard and working with employers to help them be successful in the effort to include people with disabilities in their workforce," David Newburger said.
The institute says 80 percent of the disabled who are of working age don't have jobs.
They're hoping this new change will lower the number.
