CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago's Cardinal Francis George took time during his first public appearance since being released from the hospital to thank worshippers for their prayers.
The 77-year-old spiritual leader of the Archdiocese of Chicago's more than 2 million Roman Catholics presided over Mass at Holy Name Cathedral on Sunday.
He was released from the hospital on March 21 after being treated for dehydration and flu-like symptoms.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports George said he'd "like to pray for those who prayed for me during my week in the hospital."
Before being admitted to the hospital, George had begun another round of chemotherapy after doctors found cancer near his right kidney.
He survived bladder cancer eight years ago and was diagnosed with urothelial cancer in 2012.
