An Australian pilot searching the Indian Ocean in pursuit of clues to the fate of the missing Malaysia Airlines passenger jet said Sunday that his crewspotted four orange items that could serve as a "promising lead" in the investigation. Royal Australian Air Force Lt. Russell Adams logged the location of the items and investigators will determine whether the find was sufficiently significant to send a boat into the area.

Los Angeles area residents displaced after strong quake
A strong earthquake was felt widely across the Los Angeles region shortly after 9 p.m. PT Friday. The USGS said the epicenter was 1 mile from Brea, located about 20 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles, and 3 miles from Rowland Heights and Fullerton. The main quake was preceded by two foreshocks registering at magnitudes 3.6 and 2.1, scientists said. A number of residents in the area were displaced by the temblor.
