GODFREY, Ill. (KSDK) – Two Alton men are charged with loading up a cart with $600 of merchandise from Wal-Mart and walking out of the store without paying, before putting the haul into their car.

At approximately 6 p.m. Friday, police say a Wal-Mart employee saw Ryan Markle push a shopping cart full of merchandise outside of the store into the parking lot, toward a vehicle. The man inside the vehicle – identified as Scotty Hutchens – allegedly helped Markle load the stolen merchandise into the vehicle before driving away.

Responding deputies later stopped their vehicle on Godfrey Road near Stamper Lane. Markle and Hutchens were arrested and taken to Madison County Jail, where they have been charged with felony retail theft over $300.

They are each being held on a $40,000 bond.
