ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Baseball great Tony La Russa has been selected to give the 2014 commencement address at Washington University in St. Louis, according to a news release.
La Russa will also receive an honorary doctorate in humanities during the ceremony.
This will mark his third time speaking at Washington University: he delivered an assembly series talk in 2005 and gave the keynote address at the William Greenleaf Eliot Society's 45th annual dinner in 2012.
During his 33-year career as a manager in Major League Baseball, La Russa won three World Series' and 2,728 games. He will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame later this year.
La Russa managed the Cardinals from 1996-2011, leading them to two World Series titles.
The commencement begins at 8:30 a.m. on May 16 in Brookings Quadrangle on the Danforth Campus.
