HIGHLAND, Ill. (KSDK) – People gathered in Lindendale Park Saturday morning to remember a state trooper who was killed on the job.

Kyle Deatherage, 32, was killed in 2012 when he was hit by a semi-truck during a traffic stop on Interstate 55 near Litchfield.

He left behind a wife and two young children. His widow says the race is a great way to honor her husband's memory.

"Kyle was active," Sarah Deatherage said. "He liked to get out and run and do things. He liked cake, so we are celebrating with some fabulous cupcakes today, and lots of smiles and laughs, because he'd want that for us."

All of the money raised benefits the Trooper Kyle Deatherage Memorial Fund, which helps law officers and other first responders injured in the line for duty.
