BOSTON (KSDK) – Dozens of local runners prepared Sunday for the race of a lifetime.

Some finished the Boston Marathon last year. Some didn't, so they're even more determined to cross the finish line on Monday.

A group of local women training for the race say the journey back to Boston has been a long one. But they say the feeling right now is magical and inspirational.

One O'Fallon, Mo. woman was just about to finish the race when the bombs went off.

"A lot of different feelings, like they were stealing something from me," Beverly Ofsthun said. "And then I heard there were people that died at the finish line, and I felt that it wasn't very important that I finish the race."

Ofsthun says she's not worried to finish the race, but rather excited to celebrate at the finish line.

On NewsChannel 5 at 10, you'll hear more from her about the importance of finishing what she started.
