ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – A local pet food giant is suing one of its competitors.
Nestle Purina PetCare accused the Blue Buffalo Company of misleading customers about the ingredients in its dog and cat foods.
Blue Buffalo says its pet foods contain natural ingredients and do not contain chicken or poultry byproduct.
The company also says the pet foods do not contain corn, wheat or soy – potential allergens for some pets.
Purina funded testing by an independent lab, and argues that several Blue Buffalo products contained "significant" percentages of poultry byproduct meal and corn.
