NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (CNN) – A group of teenage boys are in hot water for allegedly ranking female students and then drafting them for prom dates.
The draft order was determined by a lottery, but guys could "trade up" and buy higher picks.
This may not come as a shock, but many parents are not pleased about what happened.
"Now your daughter is a commodity," parent Michael Shorey said. "She's no longer a person anymore. She's being ranked and sold like an NFL player. It's outrageous to think of."
In a letter to parents, the principal threatened to cancel prom if the students don't clean up their act.
A Twitter account that publicized the prom draft has been taken down.
