ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – Nearby residents complained when Fairgrounds Park was shut off to traffic this weekend.

Police placed barricades at all four entrances, and police say it's part of an effort to prevent 'cruising.'

"A lot of crimes don't happen in the park, so a park ranger may not be the best use of resources," Chief Sam Dotson said. "I was here last night, and as I was standing here, a park ranger drove through the park, that's the way they patrol now."

Residents are expected to show up at a meeting at the Schlafly Library Tuesday night to voice their concerns.

Dotson says there will be a park ranger assigned to Fairground Park in July when the pool opens.

Elizabeth Matthews will have more on the story at 10.
