ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) – Two burglary suspects tried to swim away from police Wednesday afternoon in north St. Louis County following a high speed pursuit that briefly crossed the Illinois state line.

It all started at about 5 p.m., when a Jennings woman told police that four men had broken into her house and were discovered standing in the living room. Police later spotted the suspects' vehicles in the neighborhood, and began to follow them.

Police began pursuing one of the vehicles at Halls Ferry Road and St. Cyr. The pursuit continued over the Chain of Rocks bridge into Illinois before going to westbound Interstate 70.

Two burglary suspects tried to swim away from police Wednesday afternoon in north St. Louis County following a high speed pursuit that went into Illinois.

The suspect vehicle crashed into a ravine just east of Interstate 70 and Highway 111 in Missouri.

Two of the suspects tried to swim across the lake, but eventually returned to shore and were taken into custody.

The other two burglary suspects drove off in a second car, and were also taken into custody.

Police say nothing was stolen from the Jenning woman's home, and that no one was injured.

Authorities later found two large boxes of marijuana inside the vehicle that crashed into the ravine.
