Images appear to show mass executions in Iraq

The United States said Sunday it was evacuating some staff from its Embassy and beefing up security as deadly explosions rocked the Iraqi capital and advancing militant Islamic insurgents released graphic images appearing to show its fighters massacring captured Iraqi soldiers. Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress are urging U.S. military action in Iraq.

Radio icon Casey Kasem dies at 82

Casey Kasem, a radio voice who connected generations of Americans to thousands of rock and pop acts, died Sunday morning. He was 82. Kerri Kasem, Casey's daughter, announced the news on her Facebook page. The longtime host of radio's American Top 40, which he helped start in 1970, was a familiar voice to millions, known for his signature closing advice: "Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars." Over the years, he hosted other versions of the music countdown show on radio and television.

Reports: General to investigate Bergdahl's actions

A two-star general has been appointed to investigate Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl and reports that he walked away from his post in Afghanistan prior to his capture by Taliban-aligned insurgents, multiple media outlets were reporting Sunday. CNN and NBC were among news outlets reporting the appointment, citing senior Defense officials. Sources for both outlets, however, declined to name the general until the Pentagon formally announces the information. CNN said the general could begin his work as soon as this week.

The five goals are more than double what Spain allowed in the entire tournament four years ago.

Kings defeat Rangers to win Stanley Cup

It figured that a team that needed three Game 7 road wins to reach the Stanley Cup Final would need a double-overtime thriller to win the Stanley Cup. The Los Angeles Kings, who proved its resiliency throughout the postseason, showed it one last time Friday night when defenseman Alec Martinez scored at 14:43 of double overtime to give the Kings a 3-2 win against the New York Rangers and their Stanley Cup title in three seasons.
