ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – A West County firefighter who received a Missouri Medal of Valor for rescuing a man trapped in an overturned vehicle died in a motorcycle crash early Saturday morning.

Kevin Bacon of Waterloo, Illinois was 39 years old.

Police say Bacon was riding his motorcycle quickly down Broadway when he lost control of the vehicle and hit the median near Utah. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Bacon was a 15-year veteran EMS and firefighter.

In 2012, Bacon was able to lift a 3,000 pound vehicle off of a 51-year-old Valley Park man who was trapped underneath, saving his life. He received the Class II Silver Medallion from the Greater St. Louis Fire Chiefs Association for the feat, as well as the Missouri Medal of Valor.

There's no word yet on funeral arrangements.
