August, GA (WRDW/CNN) - One man is dead after he was gunned down inside an Augusta, Georgia hospital room during a family dispute.

Police say 85-year-old Charles William Gorrell shot and killed Tim Grooms Tuesday on the seventh floor of the hospital.

Grooms is the nephew of Gorrell's wife, who was being treated for an undisclosed condition.

The hospital was immediately put on lockdown.

One witness described what happened next.

"It was frantic. Like I said we were on the 6th floor in the ICU waiting room and we heard running and we were talking about it and then we got a phone call in the waiting room and we were told that we had to stay inside the waiting room and not to leave out because there was a situation. They wouldn't say what was going on, they just said there was a situation," said Shardae Walker.

Gorrell surrendered to hospital security.

He is charged with murder and possessing a firearm.

Authorities say the two men had reportedly been involved in a long-standing dispute over family members.
